“A Sacred Heart Maths student knows why.”

Mission Statement:

“A Sacred Heart Maths student knows why. They make links between their learning and how maths is relevant and used in real life.”

Intent:
At Sacred Heart, our intent for maths is to teach a rich, balanced and progressive curriculum using maths to reason, problem solve and develop fluent conceptual understanding in each area. Our curriculum allows children to better make sense of the world around them by making connections between mathematics and everyday life. The structure of the mathematics curriculum across school shows clear progression in line with age related expectations. Teaching curriculum content in a spiralised structure allows children to explore skills repeatedly, gain depth, embed knowledge and link to other maths topics. Over time this leads to a secure understanding of the full curriculum. We aim to ensure that mathematics is a high-profile subject which children view positively and with a ‘Can do’ attitude.

“I like to help people with their maths, particularly when I understand it well. When you help people, you understand it better yourself.”
“I like harder questions because I like to challenge myself.”
